Tribal Nails

So these nails didn't turn out quite as well as I would have liked. I was working on my friends nails instead of mine though this time which makes it a bit harder since they are quite a bit smaller than mine. Anyway these are the ever popular tribal nails. So thanks to my bestie for being my guinea pig for these new nails and my new brushes.

Materials Used:
Extra nail brushes for more control
Stripers
I used four different colors but you can use as many as you want
OPI Rapi Dry
OPI Clear Top Coat
Purple nail polish pens

Time: This took me about an hour but it depends on the types of designs you use.

Tip: Nail polish pens are pretty much key to this design. I only had a purple nail polish pen but I used what I had.

Funny Quote:
Me: Painting my nails relaxes me.
Mom: It's probably all the fumes.

These are actually quite a difficult nail because of the fact that there is no exact pattern. You just kind of have to go with it and make it up as you go along.

Step 1:
As usual start with a base/top clear coat and then spray with some Rapi Dry to help dry faster.

Step 2:
There are really only two steps in this whole thing. The second step is just go for it! Whatever pops into your head. Zig-zag lines really make it seem tribal though. Polka dots are useful as well.

Step 3:
Put on a clear coat. And show off your trendy nails!

Spring Checkerboard Nails

Spring Checkerboard Nails

So in honor of spring here is a checkerboard nail design in spring colors: pink, green, and silver. Now I used special nail tape to help make my lines even but if you want to you can just cut strips of tape and try to make them as even as possible.

Tip: Open all of your nail polish bottles before starting
Fact: Wearing nail polish too often can make your nails turn yellow. I wear nail polish about every other week to keep this from happening.

Supplies Needed:

  • Nail tape (or regular tape)
  • 3 different colors of polish
  • Clear coat
  • Not a fast nail project!

Step 1:

Start with a clear polish for a base coat. It doesn't have to be a base coat. I use my OPI top coat which works fine.

Step 2:

Paint a light color for the next coat. Do 2-3 coats to makes sure that you get the desired color. A trick is to not paint your full nail. By not painting the sides your nails seem longer and thinner. If you look at my thumbs you can see that I didn't pain the full side, though it's barely noticeable. Let this dry completely before you do the next step. I slept with my nails like this just to make sure they were completely dry. Using OPI Rapi Dry   works well to help dry your nails quickly.

Step 3:

Once your nails have completely dried use strips to tape to make checkerboard pattern. You can make as few or as many boxes as you'd like. I use special nail tape that is made for things like this. Keep in mind what order your put the tape on so you can remove it in the opposite order later.

Step 4:

Now fill in your boxes with different colors. I did mine in an alternating pattern so each nail wasn't like the one next to it.

Step 5:

Let the nails dry for about 2 minutes before taking the tape off. Make sure to take it off in the opposite order that you put it on so that you don't end up pulling of more than one strip at a time. Then finish with a clear coat and let dry.

Questions, comments, or requests please post and let me know how it went! Any ideas for my next nails. I was thinking maybe a tribal print. . .

Just Another Girl Hung Up on Nail Polish

Hey guys! So my name is Alysa and that's about all you'll get out of me. Anyway I will try and post at least once a week my nail tutorials. They will probably be posted on Sunday night. I try to keep up with the trends and will soon be doing a tutorial on tribal nails. I also hope to soon start doing lace nails.  I like to do holiday nails as well. So if you guys have any nail tutorials you want done comment below. I can also do it in colors you guys want because I have practically every color made. I have dotting tools, nails tape, over 70 bottles of polish/stripers, fast dry spray, and a variety of brushes (that have yet to arrive in the mail!) So anyway I will hopefully be posting new nails tomorrow night as my polish is starting to chip.

What I will post on each post

  1. Steps for nails
  2. Products used
  3. A new tip
  4. A quotes about nails/beauty
